OBITUARY

Mr. John Wilks An old resident of the Taranaki district, Mr. John Wilks, has passed away at Stratford, at the age of 74, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Wanganui. The late Mr. Wilkes was born in Wanganui, and was a grandson of the late Mr. John Jackson, who came to New Zealand in the ship Amelia Thompson. He followed farming pursuits most ot his life, and had lived for the past 20 years in Stratford. Mrs.. M. Wheeler Mrs. M. Wheeler, a resident in the Rangitikei district since. 1875, has passed away, states a "Dominion” Special Service message from Wanganui., The late Mrs. Wheeler was born in Edinburgh m 1859, and was educated at M atson lege. She came to New Zealand m Ibiu with her father, the late Mr. James. Patterson, who settled in the Rangitikei district. After her marriage she still lived in the district, and as she was a capable nurse, her help was often called upon. Her husband, Mr. George Wheekr. predeceased her some years ago, and she leaves a family of four daughters and two sons— Mesdames Bottomley (Timaru). F. hisher (Wanganui). W. J. Melville (Castlecliff), S. Small (Newbury), and Messrs. Norman Wheeler (Auckland), and Eric Wheeler (Wanganui). • The funeral will take place in lalnni ston North on Sunday.
