MINIATURE RIFLES
New Range at Petone Evidence of the popularity of miniature ■rifle shooting was given at Petone on Saturday afternoon, when at a bright gathering the Mayor, Mr. D. McKenzie, opened the new range of the Petone Central Miniature Rifle Club. About fifty people were present. Mr. A. E. Ffrost, president of the club, introduced the Mayor, and remarked how pleased they were to have the uew build- . ing. The Mayor, expressing pleasure at being present, spoke of the Borough Council’s part in getting the site for the club. Petone’s activities were well known, and he hoped that the town would derive great benefit from the miniature rifle club. Mr. W. Nash, M.P., concurred In the view that the work of those who provided , the others -with sport was indeed work worth while, and wished the elub every success. . After the Mayor had declared the build;mg open he and Mr. Nash fired over the range, and afternoon tea was served, after which many of the visitors tried their haiid at miniature shooting. - . The new building, built of wood and iron has a social hall in front, 28 feet by 19 feet, behind which Is the range, 25 JlMw J° nS iU 11 14 £eet wide ’ which will anything up to six competitors to j»et down on the mound at any time.
