POSTAGE SURCHARGE
I received a letter to-day from England with necessary stamps attached, posted on February 6. Imagine my surprise when the postman demanded Bd. short postage. How could my friend in England know that postage here was going to be increased? ■^„ c ° n y s® n^ r 8 not a fair deal from the G.P.0.—1 am, * tZ '" IS IT RIGHT? Wellington, March 9. x .. , [The General Post Office states that the surcharge on tiie letter wouldboimposed by the British Post Office, the New Zealand Post Office simply collecting the amount marked on the covet. The fact that the letter wa« surcharged indicates that the correct postage was not affixed by the sender. The surcharge could no doubt have been explained had the complainant submitted the letter to the local postal authorities. .The new New Zealand postage rates do. not affect in any way the amount of the surcharge to be collected on unpaid or shortpaid correspondence received from overseas.!
