SPIRIT AND MATTER
Christian Science Churches “Substance” was the subject of the lesson-sermon in First .and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist, Wellington, on Sunday. The golden text was from Romans viii, 25: “If we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” . . , Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead” (Romans i. 16, 29). The lesson-sermon also included the following passage from the Christian. Science textbook, “Science and Health, with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Paul says: ‘For the invisible things of Him from the creation of .the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made’ (Romans i, 20). When the substance of spirit appears in Christian'Science, the nothingness of matter is recognised. .Where the spirit of God is,- and there is no place where God it not, evil becomes nothing—the oppositeof the something of spirit” (page 479).
