Miramar Rugby Club The Miramar Football Club held its second annual social and dinner at the Miramar Town Hall on Saturday evening. Among those present were the president, Mr. S. M. Stone, Mr. R. Semple, M.P., Mr. I)’. Jackson,, of the Wellington Rugby Union, Mr. C. 0. Bell, Mr. W. V. Ridley, Mr. J. Scott, of the Referees’ Association, Mr. P. Henry, and Mr. J, G. MaeKenzie, Director of Reserves. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Stone referred to the success which had attended the Miramar Club during the season. With nine teams engaged in the competitions, Miramar had a record of which anyone might feel proud. Of the nine teams, one had. secured second place, while three had ( gained third place, surely a record, he said, for a club which was only In its infancy. He exhorted the members of the club to "play the game” on and off the field. Mr. Semple said he was pleased be had been able to persuade the City Council to build a gymnasium for Miramar. In that regal'd he had had the able and sympathetic support of Mr. MaeKenzie, Director of Reserves. Mr. Semple complimented the club on its creditable achievement. Replying to the toast of “The Wellington Rugby Union,” Mr. F. Jackson tendered his congratulations to the club. Miramar, he said, had done' remarkably well, and its success reflected great credit on the members. People often wondered, he said, what the union did with the money it had in its possession. There was quite a lot to be done with it. Ground rents alone cost something like £l4OO this season, and £lOOO went on amusement taxation. Accident fees also ran away with money; probably £6OO had been spent on this item alone. Prizes for the most improved players in the junior, intermediate .and third grade teams, went to Messrs. Skjellerup, Murphy and Masters respectively. Mr. C. O. Bell proposed giving a "beano” to the younger members of the club next week, a collection taken up for this purpose resulting in over £3 being obtained. Toasts honoured included “The King,” "Miramar Club,” “W.R.F.U.,” "Kindred Clubs,” and the “Press.” Musical items werecontributed.
