FRESH OUTBREAKS
Stock Disease in Britain Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, September 14. Three fresh outbreaks of foot and mouth disease among stock in Britain have been reported to the New Zealand Government by the High Commissioner, Sir Thomas Wilford. Commenting on this development on Saturday, Mr. H. D. Aeland, president of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation, said that the information regarding the recurrence of the disease had been reported to him by Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director of Agriculture. He stated that three instances of stock being affected in Yorkshire on September 6 and 7 had been noted. This, said Mr. Aeland, should be sufficient confirmation of the wisdom of his federation in passing the resolution at the annual meeting on Friday protesting against the lifting of the embargo on British stock. “I feel sure that the great majority of sheepowners in the Dominion are behind the federation in its objection to the lifting of the embargo,” Mr. Aeland said. “The fact that the disease has recurred should be a sufficient answer to those stock breeders who want the restrictions relaxed. It is altogether too dangerous to take such a step.”
