Marton. November 29. Tiie Marton Rose Show opened yesterday and is being continued to-day. There are record entries. The champion rose was exhibited by Miss Willis (Greatford) and was entitled "Paul's I»>mon Pillar." The points prize-winners are:— Rose (silver rose bowl). Mrs. T. R. Willis. Ollier Howers; Mrs. Fnulding. Decorative: Befty Lnmpp. Domestic (D. Thomson’s prize) : Airs. Decke. Children’s domestic: Brenda Hunt. Needlework (A. Gracie's prize) : Miss .1. Boobyer. Miss 1.. Batten, who recently resigned the position of acting-town clerk at Marton, has been appointed to a position on the staff of the, Kairanga County Council (Palmerston North). Tt whs reported to the County Council yesterday that of over £600(1 in rates to lie collected only £3OO was outstanding nt the present time. This was a record for the council, the amount outstanding at (his time last year being £l6OO.
