Charge of Manslaughter Fails.—ln the Criminal Court at Sydney Percy Spittlehouse, 31, charged with manslaughter, was acquitted and discharged. The case arose out of a motor-lorry accident on August 11, when two persons were killed at Newtown. —Press Assn. Upper House and Money Bills.— The New South Wales Legislative Council by 25 votes to 24 rejected the Legislative Assembly's amendment to the Legislative Council’s Reform Bill, which sought to remove from tlie Council the power to veto or amend money'Bills.—Press Assn. Fry s Appeal Upheld.— A Press Association message from London says the Appeal Court upheld Messrs. Fry’s appeal from the judgment awarding Cyril Tolley •£lOOO. The Court held that though Fry’s action in not obtaining Tolley’s consent to the advertisement was inconsistent with the decency of life, it was not defamatory. Tolley was represented in the advertisement with a cake of chocolate sticking out of his pocket. Ho look action against tlie makers and was awarded damages.
