CANTERBURY DROUGHT BROKEN
CROPS AND GRASS LANDS SAVED Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, November 27. The drought which was causing heavy loss to the farmers of Canterbury was broken when rain commenced to fall throughout the province yesterday afternoon. It. did not come soon enough to repair all the damage done to crops and grass lands, but farmers everywhere are highly gratified. The general opinion is that the rain has saved the situation. This is the first good fall since September. The one or two showers in between were not sufficient to counteract the effect of the long dry spell. A significant feature at the Addington sale to-day was the buoyancy of the store sheep market Farmers have been holding off purchasing lately, but the sales now indicate the general view that there will after all be a lot more feed available for fattening now that the rain has come than was expected a week ago.
