A cyclone covers the whole of the New Zealand area, and its centre is now crossing Canterbury. Pressure is high over Eastern Australia. Moderate to strong winds generally, and reaching gale force at places: southerly in Otago; elsewhere northerly, but southerlies becoming general within about 24 hours. Seas becoming rough generally. Strong and squally southerly winds with rough seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still unsettled, with further rain in most parts and some heavy falls in eastern districts. Improving later in the western districts. Temperatures becoming cold, especially in the South Island.
