Patent Granted for Aeroplane Invention.—A new retractable wing aeroplane, invented by Fred Ries, of Compton, California, has just been granted a patent Mr. Ries’s device varies the wing area of an aeroplane on which the wing tips slide in and out allowing a large surface with enormous load-lifting power for take-offs and landings, which -can also be made at slow speed. When once in the air. the pilot can not only decrease the wing surface and thereby the speed of his ship, but can also vary the angle of incidence of the wing to meet any conditions.
