Letters have been received recently from Mrs. Cecil Wray, London, by the Wanganui Victoria League, thanking the league for £lB forwarded by them to be used in Mrs. Wray's work among the disabled soldiers in Queen Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Wray entertains little parties of these sick men. takes some for drives, and arranges various outings, and in this way tries to make life more bearable for these' sufferers of the Great War. The money sent from Wanganui helps Mrs. Wray considerably. _ . The committee of the Wanganui Victoria League made the presentation on Tuesday of a Wanganui rug to Archdeacon Creed Meredith, as a small mark of appreciation for his services as chairman at the recent conference held there. In presenting the rug. the president, Mrs. D. Mason, said that the smooth running of the conference had been due to their tactful chairman. Also present were: Mesdames Meredith, R. Dix, G. 11. Robertson, N. Bain, A. Boyes, E. A. Barton, IV. D-Arey, J. Franklin. A. E. Wotton, A. G. Cross, Hay Campbell, Misses M. Harrison, A. Gibbons, and Stanford The Ladies' Guild and the Church Council of All Saints’, Wanganui East, achieved signal success with their recent parish tea. The church room was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and the tables adorned with flowers, the colour scheme being white and scarlet- Every seat was filled by a merry company. The Rev. V. A. Bianchi welcomed the guests, nnd Mrs. M. H. Taylor, president of the Ladies’ Guild, filled the position of hostess. Other helpers and table-holders were Misses Marshall. E. and F. Worgen, C. Alexander. B. Alp. I. Harris, Mesdames Annabel. Walker,'Cross. Craig, Hare, Litchfield, Drayton. 'Wickham, ■Williamson. Sherman. Hillier, Ogier, Smith, Price, Paul, Wakely, Sharpin, Workman. Jackson, Butcher. Messrs. Bianchi, A. W. Jones, and Snowden Taylor. At the conclusion of the tea, Archdeacon Meredith, on behalf of the visitors, made a brief congratulatory speech. A debate, provocative of much mirth, followed. The proposition was, "That modern male attire needs reforming.” The principal speakers for the affirmative were Mesdames Litchfield and Butcher, and for the negative Messrs. Wakely and Toomath. Other speakers were Misses Marshall and G. Bell, Mesdames Ta-lor nnd Wickham, Messrs. Bianchi, Jones, Hine. Norton and M. Mark. The motion was lost by a small majority.
