Yesterday afternoon, despite the inclement weather conditions, a most successful bazaar was held at the Y.W.C.A. club rooms, Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North. Had the weather been fine the gathering would have taken the form of a garden party and the beautiful grounds belonging to Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Barnett, of Fitzherbert Avenue, were to have been used for the purpose. Fancy work, produce, cake and sweet stalls and various competitions were well patronised, and the Y.W.C.A. funds should benefit considerably by the effort, as there was a good attendance and all the stalls did brisk business.

During the last fortnight the following have been guests at “Wcstlands.” Marlborough Sounds: —Mr. and Mrs. Eric Lcggatt ■ (Nelson), Mr. E. S. Innes (Wellington), and Mr. and Mrs. Whitfield and child (Banks Peninsula).

"While filmy skirts still continue to be long somewhere, the somewhere is not always iu the back. Many of the models prefer their skirts long on the sides. The Agues Samson Salon, Customhouse Quay, feature chiffons and georgettes for summer evenings in lovely printed floral' designs—dresses and ensembles with circular layer skirts dipping to points and coatees which tie firmly round the hip line. Washing silk dresses which fear neither the wash-tub nor sunshine are invaluable at this time of the year, and more so when accompanied by a short jacket to match. Miss Agnes Samson still continues to send out these smart garments from London and Paris by every mail and chic hats and accessories are being displayed to wear with them.—Advt.
