MANCHESTER UNITY
RECENT LODGE MEETINGS. N.G. Sister Julian presided over a good attendance at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge, Manchester Unity. Nominations for officers for the ensuing term were declared closed. Lodge honours were accorded visitors. D.D.G.M. Bro. Couper announced that a special meeting in the Britannia Lodge room would be held on Wednesday, November 27, for the purpose of presenting the Past Grands’ Shield to the winners of the ritual competition. It was also announced that next combined visit will be to Loyal Britannia Lodge on December 16 at 8 p.m. The meeting closed early in order that sisters might participate in the final social of the season of Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, Manchester Unity, held recently was largely attended and was presided over by N.Q. Bro. A. McQueen. Correspondence in connection with the allocation of surplus was read, and it was decided to agree to the suggestion of cessation of sick and funeral contributions at the age of 60 years. Additional nominations for officers were received, after which nominations were declared closed. Several candidates were proposed for membership. Officers and members of Loyal Eketahuna Lodge attended for the purpose of engaging in the half-yearly ritual competition with the local lodge. The visitors were welcomed by the Noble Grand, and lodge honours were extended to them. Much interest was taken in the competition, in the course of which each lodge initiated a candidate, each being accorded lodge honours, The competition resulted in Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge retaining the Farrow Shield.
The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Petone Lodge was held on November 14, Bro. Foote presiding over a record attendance of 41“ members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and rhe correspondence dealt with. Three new members were initiated and accorded lodge honours. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: N.G.. Bro. McKeown; V.G., Sister France; E.S., Bro. Ashcroft ; Warden. Bro. Johnson; Guardian, Bro. Jeffare; Financial Secretary, Bro. Wilson; Conductor, Bro. Harris; Lecture Master, Bro. Williams; Coach, Bro. Fleet. After supper Bro. Haigh on behalf of the lodge presented the retiring secretary. Bro. Fleet, with a gold watch suitably inscribed as a token of respect held for him by the lodge. Bro. Haigh spoke very highly of the work done for the lodge by Bro. Fleet, who has held the office of secretary for 16 years. Bro. Noble also spoke very highly of Bro. Fleet. A letter of appreciation and esteem was received from Bro. C. B. Brockelbank, P.D.G.M., who is at present at Huntly. Bro. Fleet, who was visibly affected by the feeling displayed towards him, replied, stating that he regretted the necessity for his resignation, but had always done his best for the lodge and still hoped to bo of service to it. Bro. Fleet received a great ovation on resuming his seat.
