BIG CRICKET

ENGLISH TEAM AT PERTH MATCH AGAINST WEST AUSTRALIA (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Rec. October 31, 10.20 p.m.) Perth, October 81. The first engagement of the English cricket team started to-day. The weather was showery and rain compelled an early lunch, and there was an enforced adjournment for fifteen minutes during the afternoon. There was a small attendance, and the wicket was dead. West Australia, winning the toss, batted first, and had scored 63 at lunch time. The first century occupied 95 minutes. Horrocks’s 51 took 69 minutes to compile. Play was featureless and the bowling was disappointing. Worthington and Allom were the most impressive bowlers, keeping a fine length. Nichols belied his reputation for fastness. The others were not remarkable. A feature of the day was the fine batting by Horrocks. The following are the scores:— WEST AUSTRALIA. First Innings. Richardson, c. Cornford, b. Allom 3 Taffe, b. Nichols 3 F. Bryant, b. Worthington 20 Horrocks, c. Allom, b. Nichols .. 51 R. Bryant, c. Cornford, b. Nichols 34 Rowe, b. Worthington 2 Inverarity, c. Cornford, b. Allom 24 Evans, c. and b.
