COAL DISPUTE

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S DECISION INDUSTRIAL PEACE ACT TO BE INVOKED Canberra, October 30. Other measures having failed, the Federal Government proposes to invoke the provisions of the Industrial Peace Act in an attempt to settle the coal dispute. It is announced by Mr. Scullin, the Prime Minister, that the Act is the one the Bruce Government proposed to abolish under the Maritime Industries Bill. Mr. Scullln indicated that every legal and constitutional means would be explored m an endeavour to end the trouble. The first step would be to convene a compulsory conference of employers and employees.
