SUSPICIOUS FIRE
ANOTHER CHRISTCHURCH BLAZE Dominion Special Service Christchurch, October 80. Early this morning there was a further addition to the already big list of suspicious fires at present being investigated by the Christchurch Police Department. An old six-roomed unoccupied house at 419 Durham Street North was damaged beyond repair. When the brigade arrived on the scene the old building was blazing fiercely, and nothing could be done to save it. Only after a long fight was the fire extinguished. The fire was very fierce and spectacular whilst it lasted, and a big crowd collected on the scene. Only the shell of the place was left standing. The house, which was to have been sold by auction next Saturday, had been empty for three weeks. A neighbour declared afterwards that a window had been left empty houses in Peacock Street, close to the burning home, were searched by the police, but nothing out of the ordinary was found. The insurances were not available today.
