UPPER HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. Thp fortnightly meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council was held on Tuesday, councillor W. Greig (Deputy-Mayor) presided and the following Councillors were also present:—E. W. Cottle, C. L. A. SpearA Howell. J-Blewman, M. Hood, G H. Guthrie, and J. O. Duff. A letter was received from the Minister of Railways to the effect that arrangements were being made for the construction of a siding for the convenience of picnic parties visiting Maidstone Park. P An application by Mr. A. J. McCurdy for permission to remove the Record Hall from its present site in Upper Hutt and re-erect it at Trentham was referred to the health officer for report. An application from Mr. A. J. McCurdy for permission to open the Cosy Theatre on Sunday afternoons to the public free of charge for a musical programme, and to place a collection box .or donations to the Free Ambulance in the entrance, W lt waVdecided to carry out the observance of Armistice Day on similar lines to those adopted in previous years. It was decided to make arrangements to open up the proposed extension ofArarino Road immediately, and to carry out the work of setting back the fences and opening the roadway to the public immediTh'r resignation of Mr. W. H. Edwards, assistant caretaker of Maidstone Park. was accepted. The resignation of Mr. H. Bolton as ranger for the borough was acGreig (Deputy-Mayor), who has presided over the council meetings during the absence of the Mayor, for the nest six weeks, expressed his appreciation of the assistance given to him by the council, and by Councillor J. B.Duff to the office during the illness of the town clerk. .
