VICTIM OF THE BULLER

FATAL CAPSIZE OF BOAT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, October 30. At the inquest on Charles Salter, held by the Coroner, Mr. Fox, at Tiriroa bn Monday night, evidence was given that deceased, with F. W.' Churchill, went to cross the Buller River in' a boat on October 15, and deceased apparently failed to slacken off the stern line, with the result that the boat went out into the current almost broadside on and capsized. Churchill managed to cling to the boat till he was rescued, but Salter was carried down the stream and sank. The water was very cold, and it is thought that he took cramp, as he was a good swimmer.

A verdict that death was due to drowning caused by a boat in which he was crossing the river capsizing was returned. The Coroner added that there was no direct evidence to show wbat caused the boat to capsize.
