ALLEGED THEFT OF SHEEP
TRIAL OF RANGIWAHIA FARMER. Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, October 30. In the Palmerston North Supreme Court to-day, Norman Alfred Miller, far. mer of Rangiwahia, appeared before His, Honour Mr. Justice Blair, and a jury of twelve to answer a charge of having on August 27 stolen two sheep. .Two neighbours of the accused, John Joeph Bryce and Lyndsey Douglas Bryce, father and son respectively, gate evidence identifying a sheepskin and.head found by the son on accused’s property as parts of sheep from their farm : although the earmarks were obliterated. The son admitted under cross-examina-tion that extra earmarks had been accustomed to put on the sheep to indicate age were illegal, but said that 99 or 100 per cent, of sheepfat'mers in New Zealand did the same. For the defence it, was stated that accused in evidence stated that he must have cut the ear on the fleece when skinning the sheep. He could not say how the ear on the head had been cut. The Court adjourned until to-morrow morning. Accused, who hqs been in custody for some time, was released on bail.
