HUTT ROAD TRACK
CYCLISTS. DISSATISFIED Cyclists are by no means satisfied with the manner in which their request for the repair of the Hutt Road cycle track has been treated. When the Hutt Road was formed to its present width it was recognised tliat the cyclists had a claim for consideration, and a very good asphalt track was provided between the city and Petone. But through main-laying operations, railway works, and natural deterioration, the track now is not at all satisfactory, and with the great revival of interest in cycling, those concerned (because they are not allowed to use the bitumen motor track) have been left lamenting. When the Wellington City and Suburban Highways Board was approached, it decided to leave the matter -over until next year’s estimates were considered, on the ground that there was no money available for the work. It has been stated, however that there is a residue from the last £lOO,OOO loan, which was primarily to have been used for widening the existing motor track, and this, the cycling community maintain, might be used to repair the track, which has been damaged by the activities of public authorities. They also state that when they were banned from the bitumen track, it was understood that the cycling track was to be put in order. Since then, however, its condition has gone from bad to worse.
