INDEPENDENCE FOR EGYPT

Mr. Tom Shaw, Minister of War, speaking at Preston, declared that the Labour Government was going to give Egypt independence on terms that would establish happy relations and make our communications with our Eastern Empire safe for all time. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent gathers that the AngloEgyptian conversations are expected to result inside a fortnight in an agreement on a rough draft of the proposed treaty. EGYPT TO SUBMIT DRAFT TREATY Australian Press Assn.—United Service. (Rec. July 31, 0.30 a.m.) London, July 30. The Cairo newspaper “Alahram” says that officials in contact with Mahmoud Pasha state that events in London are progressing satisfactorily. A delegation of prominent representatives of Egyptian opinion will probably be summoned to London to examine the draft Anglo-Egyptian Treaty which Mahmoud will submit to the British Government.
