LODGE MEETINGS
MANCHESTER UNITY. A meeting of the Loyal Newtown Lodge Manchester Unity, was held in the Lodge room, Rlddlford Street, on Monday last. Bro. Waterhouse, N.G., presided over a good attendance of members and visitors, Invitations were received from Loyal Antipodean and Petone Lodges. One nomination for membership was received. Bro. G. Bell reported on the recent combined visit also on the Manchester Unity ball, both of which were very successful functions. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Petone Lodge, Manchester Unity, was held in the Lodge room recently, Bro. Foote, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. One honorary member was initiated and accorded lodge honours. . A proposal to inaugurate a card tournament for the shield was agreed to and Invitations are to be extended to other Friendly Societies In the district to compete. It was resolved that the hall be engaged for the combined visit of Wellington and suburban lodges, and that the lodge officers be the social committee. ANTIPODEAN LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge Manchester Unity was held on Tuesday evening, when Bro. N. Smith, N.G., presided. A letter of recommendation was granted to Bro. Hodson, who is leaving for America. At the conclusion of business the annual smoke concert was held, when Bro. G. E. Read, P.D.G.M., presided. Guests Included Bro. Travers, district secretary A.0.F., and Bro. W. McLaughlin and Bro. Ellis represented the Ancient Order of Druids, while all town and suburban lodges were well represented. Bro. B. Body was at the piano. The following toast list was honoured:— "The King”; "Manchester Unity,” proposed by Bro. Travers, and responded to by Bro. A. C. Blair, P.D.G.M.; "Wellington District,” proposed by Bro. W. McLaughlin and responded to by Bro. R. K. Cooper, D.D.G.M.; ■ “Kindred Societies,” proposed by Bro. G. E. Read, P.D.G.M., and responded to by Bros. A. W. O. Travers, W. McLaughlin and Ellis. Representatives of various lodges also replied. “The Press” was duly honoured by the chairman, to which Bro. R. K. Couper replied, expressing appreciation of the support the Friendly Societies have always received from the Press. A splendid programme of Items was given by the following :—Bro. A. Wainwright. R.G., and Mr. W. Marshall, Bro. McLaughlin, Bro. McKlnlay. Mr. Hartnell and party. A hearty vote of thanks to the entertainers was enthusiastically carried, also to the committee in arranging and carrying out the programme. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne" brought a very pleasant evening to a close. Bro. A. McQueen, N.G., presided over the meeting of the Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, which was held at Pahtatua recently. Two members were reported on the sick list. Bro. Fitchett, of the Marton Lodge, attended and was welcomed by the lodge. Other business was disposed of and brethren adlourned to harmony, the euchre tournament for the Park Shield being advanced a further stage.
