INVESTIGATION OF NURSES’ CONDITIONS.

As a result of complaints concerning the overworking of nurses at the Auckland Hospital, the Board to-day decided to hold a special meeting to investigate conditions among nurses, and to ask the Matron and Medical Superintendent to submit reports on i the staff arrangements.

It was stated there were 244 nurses at the hospiatl, and instructions had been issued for another 35 to be employed. There had been an average of 34 away through sickness. On May 10 there were 698 patients, whereas the normal accommodation was for 557 The Rev. W. C. Wood, on whose suggestion the decision to hold an inquiry was made, said the complaints about neglect of patients seemed to apply chiefly to the Wallace Ward s. ' -
