TROTTING

FIXTURES. June 22-24—Auckland T.C.

NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By

"Overcheck.”)

On Saturday I dealt with the form : ot the horns engaged in the Prince of Wales ilaiffilcpp at. the forthcoming meeting of thp Auckland Trotting Club. To-day the form of the horses engaged In the Cornwall Handicap is reviewed.

The first Borge on the.list is Daytime, whose best placed performance over a mile Is 3,17 1-5, which was registered at the Waikato, -meeting about' eighteen months ago. During the current season Daytime has two firsts and a second to his credit. At Auckland in October he ran third to ITree Advice and Laplander in the Improvers' Handicap, in which race he was handicapped to go 3.261. Tlje following month he won the-Stewards' Handicap at Otaljuhu in 3.26 3-5, while a month later he Won the Akaraha Handicap, of If miles, at the Auckland 'sampler meeting, registering 2.51 d)-5. / The. principal merit of this performance was that he defeated Glideawgy when ip receipt' pF qnly 12 yards. The company he will meet oh Saturday is much better, aufi °n this account, his prospects do not appear to be,very rosy.

While Tony Victor had quite a good record so far this season, he does not make a very strong appeal. In-February he-ran a second and a-third at Otahuhu, registering B.T6:'2'-u. at a mile and 3.28 at a mile and, a'.liaif/e He then went on to the Waikato meeting, where he won oyer eight furlongs 'ln'!-2i13-;Y’5, : tH.? track being particularly"' fast., - Going on to Thames he ran second, ip the gup, registering 4.35 3-5, pud won the Kopu Handicap of'one mile and a quarter 1n'2.47 4-5. In April he contested the' Te Ai-ofia Cup, running third to Con, cert|na and Carmel, to each of whom he was conceding. 48’.-yards.

All'. Bell .is well up in years, and I do not think/anyone will deny>that he has passed 'his' pfime. Be '/hits registered one win, two seconds, and. a third during the current, season. At Auckland in October he ran iseeond qver ; a'inlle in 2.16 2-5. In pecpmbpr, on, the. same course, he ran second over ten furlongs, registering 2.48 3-5, and ,wbn, very unexpectedly, the Dominion Handicap, ot two miles, in' 4.4?, on a slow traclf. His last outing was at Otahuhu in February, when he ran third to Loch Mblgh and Lady Dunmore ip the Coates Handicap. The going was on the fast si.de, and his itme -was 2.46 1-5.

Bessie'Logan has done nothing to speak Of fpr, some months. Last sepson she,, did pot barn.‘i anything Xotvafds her upkeep, whilq,,tliis. season she has -xmly one placed performance td het credit"’but of six attempts. This was hetihdeond to Prinee Pointer at Oamaru in October. She then went,'2.47.'?3-5. for ten furlongs.

D|llon Huon had quite a good run last season, but,, has not raced quite so consistently this year. Hq commenced wel) by winning, the Trial Handicap at Adding, ton in August in 4.30 1-5 from-a 4.38 mark. At Auckland in' October he ran fourth in the Alexandra Handicap, time 4.35 3-5. The 4 following month he duly accounted for the.. E'dfg.usson Handicap, going '4.2$ 3-5, .but,Jte. aluce. He has run-himself -on" to a' pretty tight mark, but Lwvduld. mot like -tojSay- that he is incapable of .something better than he has yet shown -in public.

Nelson Tasker is a horse .that almost invariably runs well, though' he has not been over successful from a Winning point of view. At Auckland last October he ran second at a mile'and a quarter in 2147 2t5, and third oyer two miles in 4.36. The following month 'he was racing at Ota-hiißp;-,:;isherh-he ran third in the Massey Handicap, ‘and won . the Spring Handicap, his best lime being-2.44' 4-5. -Going on to the Waikato meeting in December he rap second in the Stark Memorial Cup, go, ing 4,32 ; 2-5 after getting away badly. Returning to Auckland he registered another third to King Pointer, and All Bell In the St. Heliers Handicap. It. is doubtful who? ther he is capable of any further improves meat.

After showing splendid form during the early part of the season, Native Prince fell from grace somewhat, but I am Inclined to think that his Jos? pf form will prove to have been only- of a temporary nature. At Addington in August he wop a tqjle arid a' quarter race lit 3.45 4-5, but at Otahuhu.. in November he improved upon this by winning the Massey Memorial Handicap in 2.42 1-5. He also won the Jellieoe Handicap of two miles in 4.32 1-5. His last jilaced performance was his second to Jean McElwyn .in the Onslow Handicap/ in which race fie registered 2,13 4-5 for a mile.

After a great run last season Jewel Pointer has only been able to place one win to his credit this season, though hp has earned place money on seven other occasions. His winning effort was registered at Auckland in October, when he Jed the field hong? ip the Campbell Handicap ,in the smart time ot 2.41 4-5. This time he bettered at Addington when he ran third to Peter Bingep and Prijjce Pointer in the Pree-for-AU, for he then went 2.30 3-p. He is a great horse over any distance.

Harvest,Child has had a heavy season, but has stood up to his work very well. He bas Wou four races, been second on four ; occasions, and third three times. He commenced the season well by winning oyer two miles at Addington in Augyst. He repeated the performance at Auckland in October, registering ~4.36. His next success was registered at New Brighton in December, when he went 4.35 1-5. At Auckland the same month he registered two seconds and a third, his best effprt being 3.21 3-5 for a mile aud a half. In January he raced at Porbury, running second to Rol I’Or in the Metropolitan Handicap, going 4.83 2,5. Hq then went north to the Otahqfiu meeting in February, following GJide Away home in-the Dominion Handicap and registering 4.31 3-5. Later in the month he’ was again In action at Forbhry, wherghe ran third to Silk Thread andiJean McElwyn, and won the Farewell Handicap pf -.one mile in 2,13 3-5.

Whareplana's , record is. not nearly ae good as that di Harvest Child, as she has only' succeeded-.in winning ppp race and securing place money on three other occa, slons. At; Addington In August she registered 2.46 3-5 for ten furlongs. In December she competed at Wellington, covering two I miles in 4.33 3-5. Going on to Auqk, land, she won over one and a quartep miles in heavy going, and was third over two miles. Her last- five efforts have not been profitable ones. "

Daphne de Oro wap in great form at Addington ip August, when; she ran soc.ond to Peterwah in fill) August Handicap, registering 4: | 2<l; • She'*was also third on the second day to Gold Jacket and Zenith. She was then oft tfie scene for a long time, making a reappearance at Timaru in March, since when her best effort was her third- to Quality and Cardinal Logan in- the President’s Handicap at Addington in. April. I am » wee bit doubtful whether .she is yet capable of winning from a 2.1 J mark, good mare though she is.
