WILFUL DISOBEDIENCE
SHIP'S FIREMEN IMPRISONED. Three firemen from the Shaw, Savill liner Kia Ora —James Scott, George Watson, and John Williams —who were before the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for absenting themselves without leave, appeared again before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday charged with wilful disobedience of a lawful order. They pladed guilty—with provocation, one of them saying, “I was drove to it.” Evidence given showed that the men who had been in prison, were placed on board the Kia Ora prior to her sailing yesterday morning. They refused to turn to and said they would sooner be In gaol than on board the ship. The vessel had since sailed from Wellington. Trouble with an engineer appeared to be their grievance, which was loudly stated to the Bench. One of the men added that they had signed on for an eight-hour day. The Magistrate reminded them that when they left the dock on Tuesday one of them had said that he had no Intention of working when he returned to the ship. . Accused were each sentenced to four * weeks’ imprisonment, the Magistrate, remarking: “They ought to be deported at the end of that tome. They are no good kicking about here!" ,
