HAWERA SCHOOL ORCHESTRA

A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. Pupils of the Hawera Technical School and the Hawera Main Primary School provided splendid entertainment at a concert given, at the Town Hall m the presence of a. Rood audience last night. The orchestra of 56 children, trained and conducted by Mr. H. C. A. Fox, was really excellent and well deserving of the loud applause accorded. Baron Munchausen” (march), The Spirit of the Winds” (overture), “Gems from Maritana,” “Qle South,” “Manrico, “Martha,” “Joyous Life’ (wait*),, and “The Laurel Branch’ (march) were the selections played. Doris Gilmore sang “The Coon” 'nicely, and Louis box, a clever violinist, played “Mazurka in such a way as to gain loud applause. Ray Hawkins scored with his horn solo “In My Cottage,” and Reginald Muschamp pleased with a comic recitation entitled “Bus 13.” David Rawson, wrth his clarinet solo “Airs from Mignon, supplied one of the most successful numbers on the programme. Ray Downey also pleased with his violin solo Sarabonde,” and Mavis Tapp recited very well. The conductor is to be congratulated for training the pupils so successfully.
