OBITUARY
MR. G. B. CHRISTIE Mr. George B. Christie, Wellington manager for the New Zealand Express Company, who bad been in indifferent health for some years, passed away on Wednesday. Born at Dunedin in 1871, the late Mr. Christie entered the service of the Express Company and was appointed manager of the Wellington branch 15 years ago. He was a first-class accountant, and his knowledge of the law relating to carriage by land and sea, and Customs Tariff, was generally recognised. His death (which was not unexpected, as he had never recovered from a serious illness a year ago) will, be regretted by a large circle of friends.
The deceased gentleman for years took an active interest in the Wellington Orphans’ Club, and was a member of its committee. He was for many years a meinber of the Commercial Travellers’ Club. Until his recent illness he took an active part in all movements of a humanitarian nature. Mr. Christie leaves a widow and daughter, and many relatives in various parts of New Zealand, one brother being Mr. J. Bruce Christie, solicitor to the State Advances Department Head Office, Wellington. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning.
