WELLINGTON DISTRICT MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Wellington District Law Society was held in the Supreme Court. Buildings, on Monday. There was a large attendance of members of the society. Tlie retiring president (Mr. H. F. Johnston) occupied the chair until the appointment of his successor. Before proceeding .with the business of the meeting, the president referred to the lamented death of the Hon. Sir Charles Skerrett, Chief Justice of New Zealand, and moved as follows: “That the society records its deep sense of the great loss sustained by the Benqh. the profession of the law, and the public, by the death of Sir Charles Skerrett, Chief Justice, and its sympathy with Miss Skerrett and members of her family,, in their bereavement.” Members stood in silence, in token of their esteem for the late Judge. The following appointments to the council were made for the current year: President, Mr. C. G. White; vice-presi-dent, Mr. A. A. Wylie; lion, treasurer, Mr. W. E. Ijeicester; committee. Messrs. H. H. Cornish, H F. Johnston, M. M. F. Luckie, P. Levi, and G. G. G. Watson. Mr. J. S. Hanna was re-elected auditor. The following resolution was passed relating to' the appointment of Mr. R. Kennedy, barrister and solicitor, of Wellington, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court: “That this meeting places on record its high appreciation of the services rendered to the society for many years by Mr. Justice Kennedy, as a past-presi-dent and member of the council of the society.” . It was resolved that the Easter Holidays and vacation to be observed by practitioners in the city, commence at noon on Thursday, March 28, and terminate on Saturday. April 6.
