DEATH SENTENCE TO STAND

London, February 25.

Joseph Clarke, aged 21, who had pleaded guilty to the murder of the mother of his fiancee by strangling, and was sentenced to death, withdrew his plea and appealed. Counsel pointed out that the only evidence was the prisoner’s own confession. The appeal was dismissed.

Clarke said that as soon as he recovered his head he tried to lift the Woman and let her breathe, but he had not thie strength.

The Court pointed out that Clarke, directly after the deed, tried to kill the daughter in the same way.
