MIRAMAR DRAINAGE
ARRANGEMENTS WELL IN HAND The city engineer is about to call for tenders for laying and jointing of the storm water main conduits required for the completion of the drainage to Miramar. The contract for the construction of the necessary pipes was let about three months ago, and deliveries of them are just being commenced.
The tenders will be in hand in about three weeks’ time, and the contract will take about 18 months to complete from the time it is’ let. The city engineer (Mr. G. A. Hart) stated yesterday that the department wac fully cognisant of the necessity for urging forward this work with all possible expedition, and every effort would be made before the winter commenced to press forward while the weather was fine, but the main factor controlling the speed of the operations was the speed with which it was practicable to make the reinforced concrete pipes forming the main drain. These required some weeks to mature after being made, but now that deliveries had commenced it was hoped to have a good supply in hand by the time the contract was let to do the work Jajtos leMPfr.
