DISPUTE AT COAL MINE
STOPPAGE ON THE COAST By Telegraph.—Press association. Greymouth, February 26. A stoppage occurred to-day at both the Dobson and Blackball mines. At Dobson six miners, through a shortage of trucks, said to be due to a defective mine roadway, which was closed last evening, were put off, and later a deputy sent three truckers home. The union held a stopwork meeting this afternoon, and asked that the truckers be paid for their shift. It was decided that the afternoon shift not go down till a settlement was effected at Blackball. The dispute is due to the company’s refusal to recognise the turn system in taking on employees. This difference is likely to be settled to-morrow. The Liverpool State miners, who have been losing 'much more time during the past fifteen months than the men at other mines, owing to the lack of orders, and other causes, are asking the Government for an inquiry as to the reason why the State coal sales arc not better.
