ASSETS OF ELECTRIC COMPANY
PURCHASE BY POWER BOARD

Arbitration proceedings opened here to-day to determine the value of the assets of the Hawera County Electric Company, for the purpose of the purchase by the South Taranaki Power Board. The assessors are Mr. E. Hitchcock, manager of the Municipal Electricity Department, Christchurch, for the board, and Mr. H. D. Vickery, accountant, of Wellington, for the company. Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., is umpire. Mr. F. C. Spratt (Wellington) and Mr. A. K. North (Hawera) are counsel for the company, which is in the position of plaintiff, and Mr. M. Myers, K.C., with him Mr. John Houston (Hawera), are counsel for the board. The witnesses include accountants and engineers from various parts of the Dominion, and it is anticipated that the proceedings will last for several days.
