A FAST RUN

MOTOR SHIP’S PERFORMANCE

The Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s new motor ship Port Alma showed that she posesses a great turn of speed by making the run of 260 odd miles from Timaru to Wellington in the remarkable time of 17 hours. The ship left Timaru at 5 p.m. on Saturday and arrived at Wellington about 10 a.m. on Sunday. Although the ship was not “pressed” in any way, she averaged 15.6 knots for the run. ' The Port Alma, which is on her maiden voyage, will leave Wellington about midday to-morrow with a full cargo of frozen meat, dairy produce, wool, fruit, ete., for London, via the Panama Canal. This ship is one of the finest cargo vessels that has visited New Zealand, and has been greatly admired since she arrived at Wellington.
