ALLEGED MAIL ROBBERS

ANOTHER CHARGE MADE

REMANDED TO TO-DAY

Yesterday the four men who will this morning appear in the Magistrate’s Court charged with the mail robbery on the ferry steamer Wahine, came before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., on another charge.

George Wilfred Ryan, a taxi-driver, aged 24, Richard Ryan, a motor mechanic, aged 31, and Thomas Gordon, another taxi-driver, aged 21, were charged with breaking and entering by night the shop of Robert Young Shearer, Ltd., 29-31 Main Road, Lower Hutt, on or about January 11. stealing ladies' and men s wearing apparel to the value of about £9O. The last of the quartet. Arthur Henry William Bevan, a plumber, aged 20, was charged with receiving from Gordon goods worth £ll 6s. 6d. between January 22 and February 3, although aware that thev had been dishonestly obtained. Mr. W. E. Leicester represented the accused. , Bail for £2OO was granted Bev n, but an application with regard to Ryan was refused on the recommendation ot ChiefDetective Ward, who stated that not only had the building been entered, but that it had been set on fire and damaged to the extent of £1750. All were remanded until this morning.
