MR. M. MYERS MAY BE APPOINTED

Wanganui, February 26.
The Wanganui “Chronicle” reports that the Attorney-General has decided to recommend the appointment of Mr. Michael Myers, K.C., of Wellington, to be Chief Justice of New Zealand, succeeding the late Sir Charles Skerrett. An announcement of the appointment will probably be made after the Governor-General’s return to Wellington at the week-end.
At the conclusion of Monday’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. W. T. Strand) made reference to the loss sustained by New Zealand in the recent death of Sit Charles Skerrett. “There is no doubt,” said Mr. Strand, “that the late Chief Justice was not only first in his profession, but was an outstanding man in the Dominion. He was respected by all who knew him, and loved by many.” The Mayor, moved that a vote of sympathy and a letter of condolence'should be sent to Miss Skerrett.
