CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP
SPECIAL CLASSES TO GO TO COUNTRY
When the Napier mail leaves Wellington on Thursday it will convey a party of 55 children, pupils whose education is being carried on in the special schools at Mount Cook, Miramar, Newtown and Petone under the Wellington Education Board. They will leave the train at Levin, where a number of motor-cars—through the kindness of residents—will be in waiting to convey them and their belongings to the Wereroa Central Development Farm, where they will go into a “health camp” for three weeks, living more or less next to Nature. • The management of the camp will be in the hands of Miss Monica Neumann, who will also be accompanied by a lady doctor from the Department of Health, and eight students and teachers who will assist in the routine work of the camp.
Special buildings have been set aside at Wereroa for the accommodation of the children, where everything for their comfort has been provided by the farm manager, Mr. J. J. Shepherd. Not the least interesting feature to children and adults will be the wireless, installation which has been lent. The teaching staff, from the headmaster (Mr. R. J. Foss) downwards, of Levin School, and also the school children and parents, are also taking great interest in the health camp and have already arranged to provide a good deal of the vegetables and eggs, required by the camp, while contributions of cakes, etc., are also being arranged for. Parents of children attending the special classes have also responded to the appeal for contributions, while contributions, either in cash or In kind, may be sent to the Education Board office by any wishing to contribute. Grants towards the cost are made by the Education Department and the Education Board.
