A prominent member of the Manipoto tribe, and one of the last of bis line. Rewatu Hiriaka, who could trace his lineage back to the “first canoe.” died last week at the age of 77. He was a descendant of Turongo Raukawa Rerehu, one of the Maniapoto sub-tribe. He lived in the Pio Pio district (King Country) practically all his life, and took a keen in native affairs.
