The special committee consisting of Federal and State officials which investigated Tasmania’s transport ■ systems, finds that there are great waste and overlapping, and recommends the co-ordination of rail and motor transportation, and the creation of a transport authority and a Federal marine authority for control of ports and harbours. It recommends the payment of a subsidy for some shipping company for the maintenance of proper communication with the rest of Australia.
