LESS FRICTION
BETWEEN CAPITAL AND LABOUR INDUSTRY IN ENGLAND BENEFICIAL RESULTS OF MOND- ‘ TURNER CONFERENCE (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) i (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, January 25. Lord Melchett and Mr. Ben Tillett sat side by side on a platform at the Rotarians’ Conference to discuss industrial reorganisation and relations in the light of the Mond-Turner conference. Lord Melchett (formerly Sir Alfred Mond) emphasised that the'' relations between Capital and Labour in England had been better organised and had been carried on with a better feeling. There was more common-sense and humanity than in any country he knew. The Mond-Turner conference was important, because it was jointly recognised that amelioration in living conditions could only result in industrial prosperity. Whatever happened now, the participants would feel that they had rendered their country a service. They had entered the conference with a common feeling of brotherhood. Mr. Ben Tillett referred to the futilityof strikes and lock-outs. He hoped that in future controversies his party would not be described as out for mischief, destruction, and revolution.
