RIFLE SHOOTING

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION ANNUAL PRIZE MEETING WILTON’S GOOD PERFORMANCE . The annual prize meeting of the Wellington Rille Association was held at Trentham on Tuesday, and. was one of .the most successful meetings staged for some years. There was a big. contingent of country competitors, teams being present from Kaiparoro (Ekutahuna), Tararua, Masterton, Greytown, Featherston, and as far afield as Wanganui. The weather conditions during the morning left a great deal to be desired, heavy intermittent showers making the targets almost invisible at times, as well as making firing a most uncomfortable job. When a start was made at the long ranges after lunch, however, the weather conditions improved considerably, and many good scores were registered. The championship was won by Rifleman R. A. Wilton, of the I'etone Rifle Club, who put up a splendid performance in that, being a handicap man, he beat all the most experienced scratch men with his score off the rille. Naturally, he annexed the handicap aggregate also, this being an aggregate for handicap competitors only. The champion teams match went to the Featherston Club for the second year in succession, Wanganui being runners-up, four points away.. Captain P. Harcham controlled the tiring point, assisted by Deputy-President J. E. Pitt, while President W. G. Fellingham was in charge of the trench. Following are the results:— SERVICE MATCH. 11.
