GATIIERING A? TIMARU. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, January 2. The South Canterbury Caledonian Society held its fifty-fourth annual gathering to-day. . The weather was dull and cold, but the attendance was large. The following are the championship awards: — Bagpipe Music (Marches), New Zealand Championship.—J. Cameron, 1; A. Mclntyre, 2. Dancing.—Sean Triubhas, South Canterbury championship : Lorna Budge, 1; Joy McLachlan, 2. New Zealand championship, girls under 14: Daphne Allan, 1;; Nance Spavin, 2. Highland fling, New Zealand championship, girls under 14: Daphne Allan, 1; Nance Spavin. 2. Irish jig,, South Canterbury championship : Lornii Budge, 1; ;Mary Kyle. 2. Cycling.—One mile South Island championship : J. R. lanson. 1; C. Bright, 2 (won by a length). Three miles New Zealand championship : A. C. Ritchie, 1; W. Willmott, 2 (won by a length). Timaru, January 2. The gathering was concluded to-day, in fine weather. The attendance was large. Following are the championships results :— Ghillie Callum South Island Championship. Girls under 16.—Daphne Allan. 1; Nancy Liddell, 2. Highland Reel, New Zealand Chajipionship, girls under 14.—Daphne Allen, 1; Nancy Liddell, 2. Half-mile Cycling, New Zealand Championship.—A. 0. Ritchie (Christchurch), 1; J. R. lanson (Christchurch), 2. Two-mile Cycling South Canterbury Championship.—A. Hansen, 1; J. R. lanson, 2. Won easily. HIGHLAND ATTRACTION AT MOTUEKA. Dominion Special Service. Nelson, January 2. At the Motueka Highland gathering yesterday T. A. MacDonald (Wellington) obtained one first and two .seconds for bagpipe music. For dancing, W. Sutherland (Wellington) secured four firsts (including the provincial championship), two seconds, and also the Bowers Cup and D.C.L. Cup. Mavis Burgoyne (Wellington) obtained three, firsts and three seconds; and Marjorie Banner (Wellington) four firsts, one second, five thirds, and also the Black and White Cup.
