GIRL FALLS OVER CLIFF

STRANGE TRAGEDY AT KATOOMBA SENSATIONAL DISCLOSURES EXPECTED 1 (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegrapb.—Copyright.) (Rec. January 2, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, January 2. An eighteen-year-old girl, Nola Rowley, fell over a cliff at Echo Point, Katoomba, early on Tuesday morning. A search throughout the day proved fruitless. Three men assert that they saw the girl go over after an altercation with young men of the party of which she was a member. It is alleged that they wanted her to go in their car, but she declined and, according to eyewitnesses, declared that if pressed she would go over the top. She climbed over the protecting rail, and before the would-be rescuers could prevent it, had slid over the face of the cliff. The girl’s body was discovered to-day on a broad ledge 150 feet down the cliff. The face was horribly battered and the arms caught in tree branches,, which prevented the body dropping right down to the bottom. The task of recovering the body was extremely hazardous. Sensational disclosures are expected. The girl resided at Coogee. GIRL NOT PUSHED OVER (Rec. January 2, 11.25 p.m.) Sydney, January 2. The police investigating the Echo Point affair are satisfied that Nola Rowley was not pushed over the cliff. The motor party included her brother-in-law, Cyril Thompson, and her married sister, with whom she had been staying at Coogee. Thompson informed the police that the girl was in bad healtij, but had expressed no intention of committing suicide. The party motored to Katoomba, to see the old year out. They halted at Echo Point, and Nola alighted and slipped accidentally into the gorge.
