SALVATION ARMY

INTEREST IN MEETING OF HIGH COUNCIL QUESTION OF ONE-MAN 1 CONTROL (Australian Press Association.) London, January 1. Considerable interest is being taken in the meeting of the Salvation Army High Council. The friends of General Bramwell Booth declare that his illness does not prevent him from carrying out his duties, and that furthermore there is no avowed rival in the field for the headship. On the contrary, another section holds that the day of one-man control has gone, and that the constitution must be overhauled. It would appear at present that the opinion of delegates is more .or less equally divided. Commander Evangeline Booth, who so far has been unable to see her brother, declares, that if the council de-, cid.ed that the general was fit to continue in office, they must accept: the position, but, she added, “other issues may then arise.” In any case, It was impossible to separate without a decision. GENERAL UNABLE TO SEE DELEGATES Australian Press Association. (Rec. January 2, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 2. Asked why General Booth was unable to see the High Council delegates, and even his sister, Colonel Tucker; a high official of the Salvation Army, replied, that the doctor would not allow the General to be told about the summoning of the council, therefore, it was impossible for him to see any of the delegates. If he did, he would naturally want to know why they were here. Even if his sister tried to hide the real reason for her presence, the General was so mentally alert that he would discover the truth in a few minutes’ conversation. The General will be told about the meeting when it is ended, if his health permits. He will also be informed of its decision.
