A FATHER’S SACRIFICE
Sydney, January 2. How a father gave his life for his daughter was revealed by Lifesaver Purcell, who went to the assistance of Stanley Wallace, 39, and his daughter, when they were carried out by an undertow at Bilgola Beach. 'W allace, who was having a hard tussle with the waves, supporting his daughter, said to Purcell: “Never mind me. Take the child.” Purcell managed to reach the shore. In the meantime two brothers went to the assistance of Wallace. The three men were washed dangerously near the rocks, but eventually succeeded In reaching the beach. However, Wallace was dead. The drowning girl was unconscious, and Purcell was exhausted when they were assisted ashore. Both revived after a lengthy treatment.
