The “Daily Telegraph’s” lobbyist states Christmas truce will be followed by five months of unceasing preparations for the elections. It is reported from the most reliable source that the Government is planning the dissolution for May 10. If that is impossible, the election will be postponed till October. FOUR BY-ELECTIONS PENDING (British Official Wireless.) Four Parliamentary by-elections are now pending. One of these is in Northern Ireland, caused by the appointment of Sir Malcolm Macnaghten. member for Londonderry, as Judge of the King’s Bench. Other vacancies have been caused by the deaths of Sir George Hutchison, Conservative member for North Midlothian, Mr. Beu Spoor, Labour member for Bishop Auckland, and Mr. George Warne, Labour member for Wansbeck. Four candidates will probably contest the Midlothian seat, the Scottish Nationalists having decided to nominate a candidate as well as each of the three principal parties. There will be a three-cornered contest at Wansbeck. At Bishop Auckland. where Mr. Hugh Dalton, who is at present M.P. for Peckham, is the prospective Labour candidate, the Labour executive has decided to invite his wife, Mrs. Dalton, to contest the seat.
