The girls retired early, but arose again at eleven for the dream fire ceremonial. In this beautiful service Father Time read for the last time from his great book, and as he read of the gifts of the different cities of the world, representatives of these cities, Jerusalem, Cairo, Tokio, Honolulu, Washington, Budapest, Prague, and Valparaiso, passed by the lire to the accompaniment of soft music, handing on the candle of beauty and truth fiom one to the other. The New Year entered, and led the girls out singing “Ring Out, Wild Bells.” On Tuesday the subject of Bible study was the citizenship of three women, Hannah, the Shuuamite woman, and Lydia. Rain unfortunately prevented the outdoor sports contest, but part of it was held in the gymnasium, and Wellington and Christchurch tied for first place, Auckland following. Tea was a “world fellowship meal” at which costumes portrayed many corners of the globe, and a most amusing oral examination was given to those who had not written out the- test on : Y.W.C.A. activities throughout the world. Mr. D. Taylor, in his evening lecture, mentioned and illustrated the outstanding contributions of different countries in the history of music. The Auckland community danced and sang a Czecho-Slo-vak folk dance, and the “city” Jerusalem sang the English hymn of- that name. Miss Law, in her vesper talk, told of her experiences and acquaintances at the world’s Y.W.C.A. conference in Budapest last June. The girls have expressed great interest, and learned much about other countries during these few days.
