Memories of Robert Louis Stevenson are recalled by. the death in Samoa of the late Mr. Johann Heinrich Kohlhase, one of the best-known traders in the island (remarks the "Auckland Star ). He was a close friend of "R.L.S.” and frequently visited him in his beautiful home, Vailima. Mr. Kohlhase was born at Stockhausen, Thurington, Saxony, in ISSI, but he had lived and worked in Samoa since the early ’eighties.” After spending some years in the employ of Grevsmuhl and Co. at Apia, he took over the Lanutoo plantation, which he developed into a beautiful estate. He began business as a trader 20 years ago. Mr. Kohlhase was greatly respected by both Europeans and natives, and he will be greatly missed. Something novel in duck eggs came the way of Mrs. Jones, a resident of Brisbane Street, Grey Lynn, the other mailing (remarks the “Auckland Star ). The egg was one of a bagful which was purchased at a grocer’s shop. It was quite fresh, but, instead of a yolk, contained another small egg. the shell of which was perfectly formed, and exceptionally hard. This inner egg contained albumen, but was also innocent of yolk.
