MATCH FOR THE WALKER SHIELD WELLINGTON’S POOR SHOWING Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, December 30. The Suburban Association’s tournament for the Walker Shield was continued yesterday, when Auckland met Wellington. The latter batted first on a rain-sodden wicket, but were all out for CO runs. A Wellington colts’ team, which was defeated by the Auckland colts on Thursday, commenced a second match of their tour yesterday when they met a team representing the Auckland Suburban Association. Wellington batted first and made 162 (Robinson 27, Neal 34, Du Chateau 12, Bilby 26 not out, Morris 24 and Griffiths 11). Auckland’s first ( innings was more or less of a procession, good bowling by Bilby aud Griffiths being backed by excejlent fielding and splendid work in the air, several of the catches being snapped very close in. Griffiths, who is regarded as a coming slow bowler for Wellington big cricket, worried all the batsmen with his open bowling. Although Bilby finished with identical figures, Auckland’s first innings produced 48 (Griffiths five for 23. Bilby five for 23). The Auckland colts continued their match against Nelson this afternoon in fine weather. The wicket was heavy.
