MAN AND HIS WIFE INJURED

(Rec. December 30, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, December 30.

A shooting affray occurred last night in New Street, Surry Hills, as the result of which Frederick Blackridge, 24 years of age, a labourer, was critically injured. Essie Blackridge, his wife, received wounds in the arm and shoulder, but not serious. John Annesley, a middle-aged man, has been arrested, charged with attempted murder.

The police understand that a dispute between the families preceded the shooting. ■ Blackridge and his wife, with Blackridge’s brother, went to the New Street house and kicked the door. The door eventually flew open and a man inside appeared with a shotgun. He immediately fired, nearly the whole of the charge entering Frederick Blackridge’s chest, and his wife receiving some pellets. The injured man was rempved to hospital, but refused to give much information to the police, who later Went to the New Street house and were confronted with a shotgun, but luckily the man did not fire.
